How to Design the Kitchen of Your Dreams

Shopping Blog

Your kitchen could be the focal point of your home and the place where the family tend to congregate. If this is the case, you need to ensure that it is not just functional but welcoming as well, even on the busiest cooking day. So if you're in the mood to renovate, what things do you need to consider as you plan for your upgrade?

Getting in the Flow

If there's one keyword to think about as you brainstorm, it's 'flow'. You need to get your chef's hat on and walk yourself through a typical meal preparation process. Figure out what utensils you are likely to use most and where they should live. Work out where your major appliances should be in relation to preparation surfaces and washing facilities. Look into the details and figure out how many steps you need to take as you move back and forth from position to position as you prepare a typical meal. This exercise is worth doing as you can save yourself a lot of work and enjoy being in your productive kitchen.

Storage Options

Next, turn to storage which is easily the second most important factor here. You need to know where everything is and be able to access it immediately, without delay. Again, be logical and practical at the same time.

You'll need to store your plates and cutlery in cabinets that are close to the dining table. Then, you will need to keep your pots and pans as close as possible to the cooking hobs and oven. You may also need a slide-out cabinet drawer with a special attachment fitted to house your cooking utensils. When you do this, you'll be able to see exactly what you need without rummaging around and can quickly get back to work. Look into different kitchen cabinets to find something that'll work for you.

Island Living

If you have room in the centre of your kitchen, you can install an island with a granite marble worktop and ample cabinetry beneath. Here, you can place lesser-used utensils, cooking appliances, or your backup supplies ready for that holiday feast.

Careful Planning

Certainly, everything will depend on the size and configuration of your kitchen but plan according to your family needs and your culinary aspirations. Then, choose cabinetry that matches the decor and compliments your style.

Exploring Options

When you're ready to get to work, talk with cabinetry suppliers, and you'll be amazed at the range of options available.
